Our Board

The EDANZ Board is elected annually by its members.

The Board meets quarterly and consists of experienced professional economic development practitioners. The Board's role is to encourage and support EDAs with sector interests in common who wish to collaborate as an industry group to address issues or take advantage of opportunities.

The Board is currently represented by 13 regions. The geographically based structure reflects the Board's commitment to take a lead in promoting a regional approach, whilst safeguarding local autonomy.

Clyde is Group Manager for AucklandPlus, the Auckland region's economic
development agency. AucklandPlus works collaboratively with local,
regional and national organizations and business leaders to further develop
Auckland's international competitiveness. A key aim of AucklandPlus is to
generate a virtuous cycle of business growth, innovation, connectivity and
skills development in the Auckland Region.

Clyde has been an economic development practitioner for over 15 years, mostly in the role of Chief Executive of Enterprise Waitakere. During that time he worked extensively with local business networks, enterprises and business investors moving into Waitakere. For 3 years Clyde chaired the Economic Development Association of New Zealand (EDANZ) and for his contributions to economic development, in 2006 Clyde was made an Honorary Fellow of EDANZ's College of Practitioners.

Clyde is a board member of the Angel Association of NZ-the Angel Association is an organisation that aims to increase the quantity, quality and success of angel investments in NZ. Clyde is also an Associate Fellow of the NZ Institute of Management and a member of Massey University's School of Humanities and Social Policy, Labour Market Advisory Group.

Clyde is a graduate of the University of Auckland and has degrees in Law and History.

John Wadsworth

John Wadsworth has been Chief Executive of Waitakere Enterprise since
August 2005. Waitakere Enterprise is an economic development agency
in a city that has demonstrated leadership in sustainable city development.

Regionally, John is member of the Auckland Regional Economic Development
Forum and is the current Chairman of the Auckland Regional Economic
Development Association. Nationally, John is Chair of the Economic
Development Agencies of New Zealand.

A graduate in economics and commerce from the University of Canterbury, he is a former president and current life member of the Canterbury University Students' Association, past member of the University of Canterbury Council, board member of the Canterbury University Bookshop and student radio station, RDU, and past president of University Sport New Zealand.

liaison with our stakeholders.

Developing, promoting, co-ordinating and growing Opportunity Hamilton's
involvement as the city's economic development agency, Sandra
works closely alongside the Board of Trustees, the awesome team and
our stakeholders; a challenging and extremely rewarding position that
she thoroughly enjoys.

Sandra is member of the EDANZ board as the representative for Waikato.

Stuart Trundle

Stuart Trundle is the chief executive of Venture Taranaki Trust, the
regional development agency for Taranaki regarded as one of the
premier models for economic development in New Zealand. He is also
a current board member for the Economic Development Centre at AUT.

Stuart's work in the formation of regional economic development
agencies in Poland and Romania were supported by the British
Government and European
Commission.

Grant is the General Manager of the Economic Development Unit for
Rotorua District Council, Board Member of EDANZ (Economic
Development Agencies of NZ), a current member of the Chamber
Executive Board, Executive of the Regional Management Committee
for Economic Development, Executive to the BrightEconomy Advisory
Board and ..... a very average but keen mountain biker (Also Rotorua
Mountain Bike Club President.) A member of the Business Advisory Committee of Waiariki Institute of Technology and heavily involved in many infrastructural business activities in Rotorua. Grant loves to have his finger on the pulse of business.


Grant has been either a business owner or marketer for his whole professional life. An avid believer in business excellence, his company Star 100% based in Rotorua won the National Award for Business Excellence in 2004. Grant has held senior marketing positions in sales and marketing in telecommunications and electronic companies. Grant has an enviable record as a successful businessman in our city, and understands the complexities of sustainable business growth. He has a sound knowledge of Rotorua, its markets and its economy. He brings with him considerable entrepreneurial experience and excellent networks in the business community. Grant is married to Cathryn and has two boys both Parkour (look it up) and MTB enthusiasts, aged 13 and 16 who attend John Paul College. Outside of work, Grant is a personification of what he promotes for Economic Development in Rotorua being the epicenter in New Zealand where you can work, live, invest and play. A work/life enthusiast who enjoys golf, fishing, gardening (if pressured) and a strong supporter of mountain biking in Rotorua.

Janet Takarangi

Venture Hawke's Bay is the Regional Development Agency for the
Hawke's Bay region. It operates as a business unit of the Hawke's
Bay Regional Council and covers Wairoa in the North through to
Porangahau in the South. Venture Hawke's Bay has three main
areas of focus which are Regional Promotion and Marketing,
Investment and Planning and Innovation and Productivity. Funded
by ratepayers Venture Hawke's Bay works with a wide range of
partners in growing Hawke's Bay to be the first region of choice
for companies, investors, and people with the drive and passion
to make a difference.

Janet has been involved in extensive roles with a focus on building in co-operation and collaboration for shared strategic and economic growth goals in the health, private consulting, regional and economic development sectors in NZ and UK. Janet has a BA from Massey and a Post Graduate Diploma in Economic Development from AUT.

Nigel Kirkpatrick

Nigel Kirkpatrick was appointed Chief Executive to Wellington's new
economic development agency, Grow Wellington Limited in November
2007.

Prior to this appointment, Nigel has held a number of leadership roles
across a range of businesses including Chief Executive, Industrial
Research and Chief Executive, of Dunedin based high tech start-up company, The Street. He has held key leadership roles for global giant Unilever including Global Innovation Leader, Managing Director Indonesia and Malaysia and General Manager New Zealand.

Bill joined the Nelson Regional EDA as its first Chief Executive in June 2004
after a 34-year career in the pipfruit industry. Bill was the Nelson-
Marlborough Regional Manager for the New Zealand Apple and Pear
Marketing Board (ENZA) from 1985 and became National Supply Manager in
1997. For three years prior to joining the EDA Bill was Procurement Director
for a joint venture UK Category Management company, Worldwide Fruit,
supplying produce to seven of the eight major UK supermarket chains. Bill
is past Chairman of the company operating the successful Nelson Giants
Basketball franchise, a Trustee of the Annesbrook Community Trust and
executive member of the Nelson Cancer Society.

Gerard Quinn

CDC is the economic development agency for Christchurch. CDC works
to increase the competitiveness of the City and surrounding region by
developing a relevantly skilled regional workforce, increasing local
business capability, and undertaking transformational economic
infrastructure projects. Gerard's first career was in aviation, performing
various roles within New Zealand's air traffic management system,
before heading to Melbourne to assume responsibility for the capability of Australia's 1100 air traffic controllers. He also owned a South Island wide courier and manpower company which employed 100 staff. Upon return to New Zealand, Gerard was Group Manager of the Canterbury Electronics Group, and Executive Director of Connect Canterbury, an agency which places Advisory Boards around high-growth companies. Gerard has a BA (Psychology) and an MBA(Dist) from the University of Canterbury, and a Grad Cert in Economic Development from AUT.

Peter Harris

Peter Harris has managed the Economic Development Unit within the
Dunedin City Council since 2002. He oversees the 9 staff and has
helped develop innovative economic development projects such as a
tertiary student business coaching service, succession planning
advice, and a fund to help researchers secure funding. These projects
have sparked significant private sector funding and have won
international and national awards (International Economic Development
Council 2008, Vero 2009). Peter is a board member of the Upstart
business incubator and the Economic Development Agencies of New Zealand (EDANZ). Prior to working with the EDU he was the Managing Director of a design-orientated company he co-founded in 1990.

Jeff Troon

Jeff Troon is the Chief Executive of Venture Southland the economic
development agency for Southland. Jeff has 17 years experience in
economic development, and has had involvement in a wide range of
initiatives. Prior to his involvement in economic development, Jeff
was Director of Technical Services for a large local authority. Venture
Southland has initiated a detailed assessment of Southland's current
and future energy needs and resources, along with a strategy to
address the identified issues and opportunities. The sustainable
development of the Southland economy, like most Regions, will be
dependent on securing sustainable energy supply at reasonable cost.
