Economic Development Agencies New Zealand (EDANZ) supports, coordinates and advocates for economic development agencies (EDAs) throughout New Zealand.

EDAs work with their local authorities to deliver programmes in the regions.

In partnership with local and also central government, EDANZ can tap into a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise in the economic development field, helping to further New Zealand's economic performance.

EDANZ is organised as 14 key regional groups at the governance level to provide national coverage.

EDANZ undertakes a range of tasks including:

  • leading the debate on strategy/policy in the economic development space;
  • acting as a connector between individual EDAs and central government stakeholders;
  • providing strategic support to regional EDAs;
  • connecting with key non-governmental stakeholders such as business, education, research agencies, iwi and community;
  • advocating a lead role for EDAs to implement economic development at a regional level;
  • identifying and promoting best practice in the field of economic development;
  • researching international models for similar organisations;
  • knowing the critical businesses and industries and working with them.

EDANZ is aware that we must continue to build business capability, so that New Zealand can respond positively and quickly as economic conditions improve.
